Clara Carson discusses her day care business, the Catawba Child Development Academy in Catawba, North Carolina. She talks about the origins of the academy, which first opened in Smyre's Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church then moved to a new building ten years later. Ms. Carson describes how the academy keeps up with former attendees and tracks their performance throughout school and also which colleges they attend. Ms. Carson also talks about growth and change in Catawba County, and the importance of the church and the camp meeting in her life and in the life of the community.
