Harvey Gantt delivers a campaign speech after lunch sponsored by the NAACP. Gantt promotes other Democratic candidates running for office in 1996, then begins talking about his platform. Gantt says that he has been talking to working families about issues including education, funding Head Start, and the importance of college. Gantt criticizes his opponent, Jesse Helms, for voting against federal involvement in education, Medicare, Social Security, school lunch programs, and student loans. He continues, saying that Helms gave tax credits to companies, the Jesse Helms Foundation gets donations from companies and foreign governments, and Helms works for special interests but not the people. Gantt says that he cares about education, seniors, working families, and the minimum wage. Gantt encourages the audience to vote and to get other people to vote.
